Will Braelon Allen make a significant impact for the New York Jets’ 2025 offense?
If you ask Pro Football Focus, Allen is set to break out in his sophomore season and play a crucial role in Tanner Engstrand’s offense.
“Allen quietly put together a strong first campaign of his own. The former Wisconsin star generated an 82.0 PFF rushing grade and a 73.6 overall PFF grade in 2024,” wrote PFF’s Bradley Locker.
“Allen remains the backup to Breece Hall in New York, but Hall’s production declined in a big way last year, with only a 68.7 PFF rushing grade. If Allen can improve his pass-catching abilities (50.3 PFF receiving grade) and blocking prowess (52.7 PFF pass-blocking grade), he could emerge as more of an every-down back for the Jets,” Locker continued.
“After all, new OC Tanner Engstrand comes from a Detroit Lions team that gave Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery each over 190 carries in 2024.”
Allen, 21, was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft. During his rookie campaign, the Wisconsin product rushed for 334 yards on 92 carries (3.6 YPA) with two touchdowns while appearing in all 17 games, and was most used in short-yardage situations.
In the receiving game, Allen collected 148 yards and a touchdown on 19 receptions.
Allen’s physicality and bruising mentality could play a pivotal role in shaping the Jets’ rushing attack this offseason.
With new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand arriving from Detroit, New York is expected to feature a backfield tandem of Hall and Allen.
In Detroit, Jahmyr Gibbs was used for his elusiveness and big-play ability, while David Montgomery provided power between the tackles, similar to the skill sets Hall and Allen bring to the Jets.
The stage is being set for Braelon Allen to assume a prominent role in the New York Jets’ offense.
