The New York Jets knew they weren’t done improving the team when they announced their 53-man roster on Tuesday.

Wednesday afternoon only enhanced that thought.

New York made three waiver pickups after the noon deadline and released three additional players who were previously thought to have made the team. Tyler Johnson, Zaire Barnes, and Marquis Hayes were the players who had originally made the roster on Tuesday but were out of a job on Wednesday.

The Jets aren’t done, either.

Jets address new 53-man roster

New York is not the only team in the league that will be looking to improve over the next few weeks before the season opener. For head coach Aaron Glenn, though, he has a clear breakdown of what the team is still going through at this time.

Before practice on Wednesday, New York’s head coach explained that the “fluidity” of the organization should lead to some good upgrades from the practice squad all the way to the 53-man roster.

“We know it’s still fluid, and then making sure that we look at how the practice squad is going to go,” Glenn said. “Itโ€™s been a really good process.”

New York has done a good job of adding talent through the offseason, and through shrewd trades over the last few weeks alone. A big part of that is due to general manager Darren Mougey and Glenn being on the same page regarding what kind of team they want the Jets to be.

That partnership has only gotten better since both were hired in January.

“It’s become very, very personal,” Glenn explained. “When you spend that much time with somebody, you not only go through the football process and things like that, but as far as family, as far as how you operate on a daily basis, kids, all that different stuff, that starts to get into the mix.”

Mougey has shown his ability to be an aggressive executive. It’s how the Jets were able to acquire defensive tackles Harrison Phillips and Jowon Briggs.

While New York may be a year or two away from championship contention, the fact they have a coach and general manager willing to make the team better no matter the cost is a sign of good things to come.

Before the start of Week 1, it’s clear that the Jets may not be done just yet.
