Ever since he was taken with the 10th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, Garrett Wilson has been a godsend for the New York Jets, despite the putrid quarterback play.
Once a team littered with excellent receivers in the past, the Jets had lacked true offensive firepower before the Ohio State product arrived. Since then, Wilson has been nothing but historic for Gang Green.
Wilson was the first Jets receiver in team history to record 1,000-yard seasons in each of his first two years with the organization.
All of this unfolded amid a revolving door at quarterback. Through constant changes under center, from Aaron Rodgers to Zach Wilson and Joe Flacco, along with low-tier backups such as Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian, Wilson has remained a steady presence in New York’s offense.
With Aaron Glenn at the helm, Wilson’s skill set is being valued even more in 2025.
Jets rave about Garrett Wilson
There was once a time when Jets fans wondered if Wilson wanted to remain a member of the organization at all.
Following a five-win 2024 season that saw the star receiver seemingly reach an impasse with the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback in Rodgers, reports speculated that the wideout would request a trade if the Jets had kept the quarterback on the roster.
With Aaron Glenn’s arrival as head coach, though, New York committed to the receiver, not the quarterback.
Wilson has rewarded the Jets ever since.
After signing a four-year extension worth over $30 million in the offseason, Wilson has been New York’s best offensive player to kick off the 2025 campaign. He has caught 27 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns.
Along the way, Glenn has raved about the skill and professionalism of the star.
“The plays that he can make, the way that he can contort his body, the way he comes down with 50/50 balls… he is an amazing person to sit there and just watch,” Glenn said. “He’s one of those guys that inspires a lot of the players on this team because of the way he goes out and plays.
“He wants the ball, he wants to win, and he comes from a winning background. I’m attracted to players like that, and I love everything about him.”
The relationship between Glenn and Wilson has been strong since the former was hired back in January. New York has committed to Wilson, and he has responded in turn with his best season to date.
The Jets’ top wideout is projected to break career-high marks in catches, yards, and touchdowns should he continue to play at the rate he has through the first month of the season.
At the end of the day, though, Wilson and the Jets are only focused on wins.
And that is something they haven’t been able to do yet in 2025.
