The New York Jets were embarrassed on Sunday, getting blown out by the Jacksonville Jaguars, 48-20.
New York’s defense took the brunt of the blame, allowing scores on eight of Jacksonville’s first nine possessions. The Jaguars threw five touchdown passes, something the Jets had not allowed since Week 8 of the 2020 season against the Kansas City Chiefs, and posted the most points New York has surrendered since a 54-13 loss to the New England Patriots in 2021.
Veteran linebacker Quincy Williams was accountable for four of those touchdowns in what marked one of the worst performances of his Jets career.
The Murray State product allowed all six passes thrown in his direction to be completed for 120 yards and four touchdowns, while also committing a pass-interference penalty.
When approached by reporters after the loss, Williams declined to comment.
“I have nothing positive to say, so I’m not doing any media,” said the linebacker, per Antwan Staley of The New York Daily News.
Williams wasn’t the only Jet who didn’t want to speak with the media following New York’s lackluster performance, as defensive end Jermaine Johnson also declined any interviews.
Set to hit free agency this offseason, each passing week has made it feel less and less likely that Gang Green will re-sign Williams. With a complete defensive overhaul looming, the Jets appear headed for sweeping change, and it seems increasingly likely that Williams’ future lies elsewhere.
And maybe, in the end, that outcome would be best for both Williams and the Jets.
