The New York Jets have all of their coordinators hired heading into the 2026 offseason.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, New York agreed to a contract with Frank Reich to be their offensive coordinator and play-caller for the upcoming season.

The hire comes after a tumultuous month in which the Jets considered a play-calling change on the offensive side of the ball, causing them to part ways with previous offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, along with several offensive assistants.

Now, Reich steps into a role where the Jets will need him to be the “offensive head coach” for the upcoming season, one that could make or break the current regime in totality.

Jets find new offensive play-caller

Reich has a long history of success with multiple different quarterbacks. He was a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for Phillip Rivers with the then-San Diego Chargers before becoming Doug Pederson’s right-hand man with the Eagles.

In Philadelphia, Reich never called a play, but he assisted in the development of Carson Wentz during his MVP-caliber season, and aided Nick Foles’ run to Super Bowl LII.

Shortly after winning the Super Bowl, Reich took the head coach job with the Indianapolis Colts, where he led the team to the playoffs with Andrew Luck (2018) and Rivers (2020). He had less success with Wentz, Jacoby Brissett, and Matt Ryan.

At 64 years old and coming off back-to-back in-season firings as the head coach of the Colts (2022) and Panthers (2023), there will be calls that Reich’s time in the league has passed. He spent the last two years out of the NFL, taking 2024 off while serving as Stanford’s head coach in 2025 (4-8 record).

However, Reich’s extensive work with quarterbacks is something the Jets have rarely had at the OC spot, making him a commodity for New York.
