The purge of the 2022 draft class continues for the New York Jets.
First, it was All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner. Now, it’s Jermaine Johnson.
On Thursday, New York agreed to a trade that sent the former 26th overall pick to the Tennessee Titans for nose tackle T’Vondre Sweat, who was a 2024 second-round pick. Johnson played four seasons with the Jets and totaled 13 sacks.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report the news.
The Florida State product suffered a torn Achilles in his third season with the team, and returned in 2025 to record three sacks in 14 games. Johnson now reunites with new Titans head coach Robert Saleh, who was part of the leadership group that drafted him in New York.
Sweat is an intriguing return for Gang Green as well.
The 38th overall selection in the 2024 draft, Sweat is listed as a nose tackle and has recorded 85 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, and three sacks in 29 games. His acquisition could lead to the Jets transitioning fully to a 3-4 alignment with Sweat at the center of the change.
Regardless, the Jets have shaken up the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine with this trade. It clears the way for them to focus on the edge rusher position in free agency and with the second overall pick in the 2026 draft.
