For the first time in years, the New York Jets cannot lose.
When the organization makes its picks during the 2026 NFL draft, it will do so knowing it has several key roster weaknesses to address. For each draft selection, a major need is expected to be “solved.”
Of course, fans and analysts won’t know for sure whether those draft selections will become dependable players. The draft, as it always is, can be more of a game of luck than anything else.
What New York really needs, though, is balanceโespecially considering the team is dealing with more than just one central need on either side of the ball.
Jets search for balance
What is “balance” during a draft? How can a team that won just three games the year prior hope to find “balance” in the players that they choose?
In the case of the Jets, the organization has key needs at edge rusher, quarterback, wide receiver, along with depth along the offensive line, secondary, and other areas.
New York is walking into the draft in two weeks with nine total selections and four within the first 50 overall picks. Armed with quality ammo like that, it’s easy to see how the team should be expected to come away with four starters on the upcoming team.
It’s also why the Jets are moving with finding the “best player available” mentality.
โIf we feel like heโs the best player on the board, thatโs who we draft โ weโre not trying to reach and grab for guys,โ Glenn said about the teamโs approach.
The search for balance means the Jets must be able to draft multiple starters on offense and defense. Currently, New York does not have the talent to be considered a viable threat in the standings.
But if they grab the best available player at each slot of the draft, whether they play offense or defense, it would finally seem like the winds are changing in Florham Parkโat a time when the organization needs it most.
Gang Green needs top players who can come in and be the future faces of the organization. The “dream” draft for the team will be to find a quality edge rusher and receiver with their first-round picks, and then the best available players on either side of the ball in the second.
Anything close to that will change how the Jets are perceived in 2026.
