You’d be hard-pressed to find a recent fourth-round quarterback prospect who is more polarizing than the New York Jets’ Cade Klubnik.
One year ago, the Clemson product was riding high in NFL draft circles. Many mock drafts had him going first overall, sometimes to the Jets.
Klubnik showed plenty of exciting flashes on his 2024 film. But in 2025, his production fell off a cliff, and so did his film.
In turn, Klubnik plummeted from a potential No. 1 pick to a Day 3 prospect. The Jets ultimately traded up to take a shot on his potential in the early fourth round.
Klubnik joins a Jets quarterback room where he may have a chance to win a backup role from Day 1. Geno Smith is penciled in as the starter, but New York reportedly does not plan to add a veteran backup. It gives Klubnik a chance to compete against two low-level NFL passers in Bailey Zappe and Brady Cook, who each have more career interceptions than touchdown passes.
Part of the reason why New York isn’t eager to add a veteran backup is their confidence in Klubnik’s potential. Despite his fourth-round status, they are high on the former Tiger.
So, what happened in 2025 that caused Klubnik’s production to fall so dramatically? How much was on him, and how much was his supporting cast? Are his issues fixable, giving him a chance to return to his 2024 peak with certain tweaks? Or was he exposed as a player who does not have a legitimate chance to be an NFL starter?
In the latest edition of Blewett’s Blitz, we answer all of those questions and more in a full-fledged breakdown of Klubnik’s 2025 All-22 film.
