New York Jets general manager Darren Mougey keeps doing what smart general managers tend to do: re-signing young talent before they hit the open market.
After re-signing Breece Hall just a few weeks ago, Mougey kept the extension train going on Monday with the decision to re-sign right guard Joe Tippmann to a four-year, $66.4 million contract with $34.9 million guaranteed. The $16.6 million salary places him 14th among guards.
Tippmann is going into his fourth season with the Jets after being chosen in the second round of the 2023 draft. He played both right guard and center as a rookie before transitioning to a full-time starting center role in 2024. The plan was for him to stay there moving forward, but Alijah Vera-Tucker’s injury pushed him back to right guard in 2025, where he stayed for the full season.
Now, Tippmann is poised to be the Jets’ long-term right guard.
Tippmann’s new contract is a vote of confidence from the Jets’ front office, proclaiming that they view him as a high-quality starting right guard for the long haul.
There are numbers supporting that claim, but what does the film say? Where is Tippmann in his development as a guard and as an overall lineman? Where does he rank among guards going into the 2026 season?
In the latest edition of Blewett’s Blitz, we answer those questions and more in a full-fledged breakdown of Tippmann’s All-22 film.
Below is the full Joe Tippmann film review and scouting report (strengths and weaknesses).
