New York Jets running back Breece Hall is one of the most fascinating running backs in football.
His home-run hitting ability is there, and coupled with his high-end pass-catching capabilities, he is certainly one of the most talented running backs in the sport.
However, from a production standpoint, where does he rank among the league’s top backs?
On Monday, ESPNโs Jeremy Fowler released his top 10 running back rankings, the results of which were generated by surveying nearly 70 league executives, scouts, and coaches.
The top 10
- Bijan Robinson (ATL)
- Jahmyr Gibbs (DET)
- Saquon Barkley (PHI)
- Christian McCaffrey (SF)
- Jonathan Taylor (IND)
- Derrick Henry (BAL)
- James Cook III (BUF)
- De’Von Achane (MIA)
- Kenneth Walker III (KC)
- Breece Hall (NYJ)
Hall ranks 10th on the list, which is a step up compared to his honorable mention last season.
“True three-down back, creates as a runner and can play in the passing game with good hands,” a high-ranking executive with an NFL team said of Hall, per Fowler. “He’s a big back [at 220-plus pounds] with the ability to create on his own with good body control and is strong through contact.”
After hitting a career-high in rushing yards last season (1,065), Hall was rewarded with a three-year, $43.5 million extension this offseason.
He also remains one of the league’s top receiving backs, as his 350 receiving yards this season ranked 12th among qualified RBs, and his 9.7 yards per reception ranked fourth.
No disrespect
Ultimately, Hall wasn’t necessarily disrespected in these rankings. Tenth is a pretty fair landing spot for the Iowa State product.
He certainly has the upside and potential to enter the top-five conversation, but 10th is a very fair ranking for now.
An argument exists to place Breece ahead of Kenneth Walker III โ who ranked ninth in regular-season production โ but his performance in the Super Bowl was too electric to put him below that spot.
Now, on a fresh extension, if Breece Hall puts everything together in 2026, we could be talking about the New York Jets halfback ranking much higher on this list a year from now.
