During the New York Jets’ first joint practice against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, things reportedly got fiery between the two teams.
According to Jets X-Factor’s Robby Sabo, who is in Florham Park, a fight broke out between No. 2 overall pick David Bailey and Buccaneers tackle Luke Goedeke.
It appears to have stemmed from Goedeke, Tampa Bay’s right tackle, getting the better of Bailey in one-on-one pass-rush drills. Goedeke shoved Bailey after the fact, creating a little extracurricular activity.
“David Bailey and Luke Goedeke just swung at each other and started a fight,” wrote Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
I’m sure this is something Jets fans are pleased to see.
The fanbase loves it when Gang Green’s rookies show some grittiness throughout camp. This is an example of Bailey, who returned from a minor ankle tweak today, doing just that.
Tuesday is the first of two joint practices between the Jets and the Bucs before they face off in their first preseason clash at MetLife Stadium on Friday night.
Unlike years past, Tampa Bay is the only team New York has joint practices scheduled with this year for reasons that remain unknown.
Perhaps it has to do with the team’s increase in off days. Unlike last year, the Jets have taken a more strategic approach to when and how long they practice. For example, they had back-to-back off days on Sunday and Monday this week, which is abnormal compared to prior years.
According to head coach Aaron Glenn, the team takes a “data-driven” approach to scheduling off days and practice sequences.
Consider Bailey’s ankle is officially cleared for combat.
