The New York Jets’ starters got some brief playing time in the team’s preseason opener, including freshly extended running back Breece Hall.
New York’s top runner received four carries across one series of action, racking up 16 rushing yards. Of those 16 yards, 14 came on one play, but there was daylight for Hall to pick up nine more yards and reach the end zone. Instead, Hall slipped and fell after making a defender miss.
After the game, Hall took to social media to jokingly pin the fall on the “turf monster”, while also suggesting that MetLife Stadium “need[s] grass ASAP”.
Here is a look at the play in question, occurring on first-and-10 at the Tampa Bay 23-yard line with 9:17 remaining in the first quarter.

Hall signed a three-year, $43.5 million contract extension with the Jets in May. Following a flurry of lucrative extensions for running backs in recent weeks, Hall’s contract is now the eighth-largest among at the position in terms of both salary ($14.5 million) and total guaranteed money ($29 million).
Those rankings are quite fair given the impact Hall had in the 2025 season. Between the run and pass games, he racked up a combined 241 yards over expected, which ranked seventh-best among running backs, slotting between Jonathan Taylor and Rhamondre Stevenson. That includes 142 as a rusher and 99 after the catch.
Despite Hall’s call for the Jets to switch to a grass field, the surface at MetLife Stadium will not be changing this year. As a result, the Jets would love to see him finish that run with a touchdown once the regular season arrives, but hey, shaking off the rust is precisely what the preseason is for.
