The New York Jets have released edge rusher Nate Lynn despite an excellent preseason, per source.
Lynn, 24, signed with the team three days before their Week 2 preseason matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but that didn’t stop him from capitalizing on every one of his opportunities.
Throughout two preseason games with New York, he generated a team-high six pressures and three sacks while his 86.5 overall grade at Pro Football Focus finished seventh among 173 EDGEs (minimum 30 snaps).
This isn’t the first time he has dominated in the preseason, either. In three career preseasons, after spending 2024 and 25 with the Detroit Lions, he’s generated 21 total pressures on 114 pass rush snaps, contributing to an absurd 18.4% pressure rate.
Given that he doesn’t have four years of NFL experience, Lynn is subject to waivers and could very well be claimed. Teams across the league are always looking for pass rushing, and he has proven three summers in a row that he can do just that.
The source told Jet X that there is mutual interest in Lynn returning to Gang Green’s practice squad if he clears waivers.
Ultimately, Lynn did everything a player in his position could have done to earn a roster spot. Perhaps there would have been a different outcome if he were with the team all summer long.
The deadline for teams to cut their roster down to 53 is Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET. Of what has been reported, Lynn is the fifth player New York has cut so far.
