The New York Jets are getting healthier as they prepare for a Week 2 clash with the Green Bay Packers.
Thursday’s injury report featured two starters making their full return to practice after having “limited” designations on Wednesday: linebacker Jamien Sherwood and cornerback D’Angelo Ponds, the latter of whom missed the season opener.
- WR Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle): DNP
- S Minkah Fitzpatrick (groin): DNP
- RB Kene Nwangwu (back): DNP
- EDGE Joseph Ossai (foot): DNP
- EDGE Will McDonald (ankle): Limited
- DL David Onyemata (vet rest): Full
- CB D’Angelo Ponds (calf): Full
- LB Jamien Sherwood (knee): Full
- CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. (shoulder): Full
Ponds, a second-round pick, is on track to make his NFL debut after missing most of training camp and all of the preseason with a calf injury. The Indiana product is expected to be the Jets’ starting slot corner when fully healthy, but after Jarvis Brownlee Jr.’s excellent performance in his place to begin the season, the Jets don’t have to rush Ponds into a featured role.
Wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and Minkah Fitzpatrick did not practice, as expected. Both players are being handled on a week-to-week basis after exiting early in Week 1.
Edge rusher Joseph Ossai appears on track to miss his second consecutive game to begin the season, and the same goes for kick returner Kene Nwangwu.
A surprising addition to Thursday’s injury report was edge rusher Will McDonald, who was limited with an ankle issue after not being listed on Wednesday’s injury report. McDonald played 50% of the Jets’ defensive snaps and recorded a sack in the season opener.
