Knapp had been the Jets’ chosen coach to groom Zach Wilson
The New York Jets are honoring former QB coach Greg Knapp, who passed away in 2021 due to a distracted driver.
Head coach Robert Saleh runs the lower-level steps of the stadium every week before the game. This week, he was joined by many others, including the other Jets’ coaches, in running the stadium steps to support prevention of distracted driving.

Knapp, lovingly referred to as “Knapper,” was an NFL coach for 25 years and had been brought in to work with Zach Wilson. He coached 11 Pro Bowl quarterbacks in his career and was well-regarded as a quarterback guru. His death threw a wrench in the Jets’ football plans, but more importantly, it ripped a man from the world far before his time, at the age of 58, leaving behind his wife and three daughters.
On Thursday, when announcing the initiative, Saleh got emotional, saying “It’s got to change,” referring to the nearly one million distracted drivers in the U.S. each year.

The Jets sure could’ve used Knapp right about now, as the revolving QB carousel needs a stabilizing presence.
More importantly, the team honors the memory of a man who passed far before his time. May his legacy be remembered.
