Jamal Adams and Joe Douglas have gone through a crash course relationship. Today, credit is due to both New York Jets employees.

Late October 2019, Florham Park, NJ was open season for the media. Rumors swirled while players soaked it all in, and coaching and front office heads towed the new, nearly leak-free company line.

Open season quickly turned into a free, 24/7 firing range when the New York Jets best player, Jamal Adams, made his unhappiness known to the public.

“When my agent called me and told me what was going on, it definitely hurt me,” Adams said in the locker room after one of the team’s weekday practices. “I hold myself as a high level. The Rams don’t take calls on Aaron Donald, the Patriots don’t take calls on Tom Brady, you know what I mean? That’s where I hold myself in that regard.”

And this came after a series of tweets voicing his displeasure while flat-out denying he requested a trade.

“I’m not ready to talk,” he said. “That’s where I’m at with it. When you go through something, sometimes it’s best to let everything cool down.

“I’m not going to sit here and say it didn’t hurt me. It did,” he said of the trade talks. “But I’m excited to be here.”

Despite the raging heat, Joe Douglas calmly took to the podium and delivered the Adams news. Instead of hiding the fact he had discussed the man in possible trade discussions, Douglas kept it short, simple and concise.
