Speaking to the media following Tuesday’s training camp practice, New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that running back Braelon Allen was held out of today’s practice with knee soreness.
Glenn also added that the team wanted to give him two days of recovery. Tomorrow is an off day for all players.
Drafted in the fourth round out of Wisconsin in 2024, Allen appeared in all 17 games during his rookie season, carving out a niche as the Jetsโ primary short-yardage back. He totaled 334 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 92 attempts while adding 19 catches for 148 yards and a receiving touchdown.
After a full offseason to adjust, Allen has made a strong impression at training camp, showcasing his downhill running style and improved field awareness.
“Big, physical, tough,” Glenn said of Allen. “He’s got a workman mentality, doesn’t say much, he just wants to work. Really good teammate, understands the situation that we’re all in when it comes to how we’re going to progress with this team, and he’s not afraid to go play special teams. No matter what the situation is, even if he’s the starter, he understands that he still wants his job at special teams, so I want a team with guys like that, and we have a team with guys like that.”
Allen’s bruising frame and north-south approach give the Jets a physical edge in the backfield, especially when paired with quarterback Justin Fieldsโ speed and improvisational ability.
Whether itโs in option packages or goal-line situations, Allen brings a punishing presence that could anchor New Yorkโs ground game behind Breece Hall.
