While the bulk of free agency is well behind us, the New York Jets are staying vigilant in improving the weak points of their roster. According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the Jets have signed free agent wide receiver Tim Patrick.
Patrick, 32, is set to enter his seventh NFL season after entering the league in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of Utah. In 87 career games (49 starts), he has caught 191 of 304 targets for 2,590 yards and eight touchdowns.
With the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, he played in 16 games (three starts), while reeling in 15 of his 24 targets for 187 yards and three touchdowns.
His three receiving touchdowns would have ranked second among wide receivers on the 2025 Jets, trailing only Garrett Wilson’s four throughout seven games.
Patrick overlapped with Jets head coach Aaron Glenn as a member of the Detroit Lions in 2024, when Glenn served as the Lions’ defensive coordinator. That season, Patrick played in 16 games (nine starts), catching 33 of 44 targets for 394 yards and three touchdowns.
Last offseason, Patrick was floated as a potential addition to the Jets due to his connection with now-former Jets OC Tanner Engstrand. Over a year later, with Engstrand no longer on the staff, he has signed with the team.
Patrick will join a Jets wide receiver room currently comprised of Garrett Wilson, rookie Omar Cooper Jr., Adonai Mitchell, Arian Smith, Isaiah Williams, Jamaal Prtichett, Quentin Skinner, Irvin Charles, and undrafted rookies Caullin Lacy, Malik McClain, and DT Sheffield.
At the very least, Patrick will provide veteran experience in a very young receiving room.
Patrick is signing a one-year deal worth slightly more than the veteran salary benefit, which goes for around $1.5 million, per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
