While the New York Jets suffered a tough 26-19 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, the team got some of the best news in the league regarding its draft picks.
The Jets own three first-round picks in April’s 2027 NFL draft, including the Indianapolis Colts’ and the Dallas Cowboys’, which could become the Green Bay Packers’ pick, depending on whose pick lands higher.
Both Indianapolis and Dallas lost their Week 6 matchups, setting up the Jets very nicely in the draft order, even aside from their own loss to hit 2-4 on the season.
Ahead of Monday Night Football, here is a look at the current draft order:
- Los Angeles Chargers (0-6, .551 SOS)
- Miami Dolphins (0-5, .619 SOS)
- Tennessee Titans (1-5, .485 SOS)
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-5, .505 SOS)
- Washington Commanders (1-3-1, .465 SOS)
- New York Jets, via Dallas Cowboys (2-4, .444 SOS)
- Philadelphia Eagles (2-4, .469 SOS)
- Houston Texans (2-4, .470 SOS)
- Arizona Cardinals (2-4, .495 SOS)
- New York Jets, via Indianapolis Colts (2-4, .495 SOS)
- Cleveland Browns, via Los Angeles Rams (2-4, .520 SOS)
- New Orleans Saints (2-4, .531 SOS)
- New York Jets (2-4, .546 SOS)
Currently, two of the Jets’ three picks are projected in the top 10, courtesy of Dallas (6th) and Indianapolis (10th). Their own pick is currently slotted as the lowest projected selection: 13th.
The Colts lost to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, giving the Titans their first win of the season. Indy seems to have hit rock bottom, as the loss prompted them to fire general manager Chris Ballard.
Unfortunately for the Colts, the road ahead doesn’t look brighter, with the 5-0 Minnesota Vikings and the 4-2 Jacksonville Jaguars looming over the next two weeks. The Sauce Gardner trade keeps looking better and better for the Jets by the day.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys lost to Green Bay on Sunday night, falling 23-13 to the 4-2 Packers. After a 2-2 start to the season, this week marked Dallas’ second straight loss.
The Cowboys’ loss to Green Bay puts the Jets’ pick in a higher position than if Dallas were to defeat the Packers. However, the Cowboys’ division is more open than the Packers’, and they seem to have a better outlook moving forward because of that. Dallas has the league’s third-easiest remaining schedule (.438), while Green Bay has the league’s seventh-hardest (.541).
When the Jets made their deadline trades for Gardner and Quinnen Williams last year, they were largely viewed as strong moves for the team. Now, day by day, those trades look better and better, as New York has set themselves up in an excellent position for the 2027 draft.
