Joe Douglas and the New York Jets have acquired wide receiver D.J. Montgomery off waivers from the Cleveland Browns.
Joe Douglas‘ mission statement of the moment is pretty simple: Do everything imaginable to acquire more talent at the wide receiver position. Count one in the plus column on Sunday.
The New York Jets have acquired wide receiver D.J. Montgomery off waivers from the Cleveland Browns, according to the team’s official website and the league’s official transaction wire.
Montgomery, 23, is a second-year wideout who arrived in Cleveland as an undrafted free agent. The 6-foot-1, 201-pound weapon played decently well for the Browns in the preseason a year ago. The problem was health.
Montgomery injured his hamstring halfway through training camp and did not appear in a single regular-season game.
With Breshad Perriman and Denzel Mims still out via injury, Vyncint Smith out for at least the next month after undergoing surgery, and Josh Doctson out all season due to a COVID-19-related opt-out, the Austin Peay product joins a Jets wide receiver room in need of healthy bodies and a spark.
