The New York Jets work out linebacker Paul Worrilow, while Blake Cashman and Denzel Mims are placed on IR.
The New York Jets worked out veteran linebacker Paul Worrilow Tuesday, per the league’s transaction wire and ESPN’s Field Yates.
Some notable workouts/visits early this week:
Jets: LB Paul Worrilow
Seahawks: DE Breeland Speaks
Vikings: S George Iloka
Chargers: RB Bilal Powell
Texans: LB James Burgess, WR Dwayne Harris— Field Yates (@FieldYates) September 15, 2020
Worrilow, 30, dressed in four games with the Jets a year ago. Prior to that, he spent four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons (2013-2016) and a season in Detroit with the Lions (2017).
Worrilow missed the entirety of the 2018 campaign with the Philadelphia Eagles due to a torn ACL. After signing with the Baltimore Ravens prior to the 2019 campaign, he retired after a day into the contract. The Jets brought him out of retirement on Nov. 5, 2019.
Now, Gregg Williams and the defense desperately needs extra bodies at the inside linebacker position. With Avery Williamson‘s status still in question and Blake Cashman on IR (as he’s one of three placed on the IR Tuesday), the only healthy body is Neville Hewitt. (Harvey Langi is the other guy who can play inside backer when needed, but he’s more of an edge rusher.)
The move has been made in conjunction with the Cashman move, who heads to the IR after injuring his groin in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Along with Cashman, rookie wide receiver Denzel Mims also heads to the shelf.
Both players won’t be eligible to return until Week 5.
We've signed RB Kalen Ballage to the active roster.
Additionally, we've placed RB Le'Veon Bell, WR Denzel Mims and LB Blake Cashman on IR.

Worrilow has Super Bowl experience, as his Falcons lost one of the toughest big games in NFL history (New England Patriots).
The veteran linebacker has tallied 415 tackles, two interceptions, four sacks and 11 pass deflections in 76 games as a pro.
