Alijah Vera-Tucker is the New York Jets‘ modern-day offensive version of Joe Klecko.

As versatile as an offensive lineman could possibly be, Joe Douglas’s gem of a 14th overall NFL draft selection (2021) has already played left guard, right guard, left tackle and left tackle in his short career.

After playing 16 games his rookie season, AVT moved to right guard after the Jets signed veteran Laken Tomlinson. After playing some at right guard, the Jets surprised everybody by moving Vera-Tucker to left tackle in the team’s stunning 24-20 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Just a week later, AVT moved to right tackle once Duane Brown returned to the lineup.

Many of the analytics diehards criticized the Jets’ move to trade up for the USC stud at No. 14 in the 2021 NFL draft, but Vera-Tucker has NFL All-Pro talent dripping from every part of his football soul.

In many ways, Alijah Vera-Tucker is the heart and soul of the New York Jets. When he went down for the season against the Denver Broncos, the once 5-2 Jets were never the same in the 2022 season.

AVT is expected to begin the 2023 season at his familiar right guard position—tasked with blocking for Aaron Rodgers.

Mile High gets Alijah Vera-Tucker yet again

New York Jets offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker should never play in Denver ever again.

For the second straight season, the Jets’ stud lineman suffered a season-ending injury while playing against the Denver Broncos. And, incredibly, it’s the same injury Aaron Rodgers suffered in Week 1, a torn Achilles.

Alijah Vera-Tucker returns to pave the way vs. Bills

Much like Breece Hall, New York Jets right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker also returned from injury in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills.

Alongside Mekhi Becton, AVT led the offensive line on the ground, as the Jets rushed for 172 yards on 28 carries, good enough for a sparkling 6.1 yards per carry.

The main thing the New York Jets are seeking from the Alijah Vera-Tucker stats column is availability.

After playing 16 games in his rookie season, the USC product was lost for the season after just seven games in 2022. Both Vera-Tucker and rookie Breece Hall were lost for the year in Denver when the Jets improved to 5-2.

Here’s yet another New York Jets player whose contract situation is right where Joe Douglas wants it. Alijah Vera-Tucker’s salary is tidy thanks to still being in the middle of the rookie four-year deal (with a fifth-year option).
