New York Jets players and coaches have been sent home from practice after a player had a presumptive positive COVID-19 test.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, all Jets players and coaches were sent home from practice today after a “presumptive” positive COVID-19 test for one player.

With the Arizona Cardinals scheduled to leave for New Jersey today, the positive test brings up complications if their game against the Jets is to be played as scheduled on Sunday.

Positive tests with the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots have led to recent schedule changes. After numerous positive tests, the Titans had their Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers moved back to Week 7, while their Week 5 game against the Buffalo Bills will reportedly move from Sunday to Tuesday. New England’s Week 4 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, previously scheduled for Sunday, was moved back one day to Monday night after one positive test.

New England’s positive test (Cam Newton) was announced last Saturday, one day before the scheduled game with Kansas City. With the Jets’ announcement coming on Friday, New England’s situation serves as the closest model for what the Jets appear to be dealing with.

It remains to be seen how this will affect Sunday’s game – it is crucial that the total number of positive tests remains at one for the game to go on as scheduled. If that happens to be the case, perhaps the game can be played as planned on Sunday or moved back to Monday, avoiding being pushed back to a later week.

Nevertheless, assuming anything in the rapidly-changing COVID-19 world would be foolish. Stay tuned as more information is revealed.
