A recent report suggests New York Jets possible draft target Trevor Lawrence is leaning towards Jay Courie of MGC Sports as his agent.

A critical part of the 2021 NFL draft process includes Trevor Lawrence‘s choice of agent. As seen throughout history—e.g., Tom Condon representing Eli Manning in the 2004 draft—an agent’s influence is significant.

The Clemson quarterback is leaning towards Jay Courie of MGC Sports, according to Darren Heitner of the Sports Agent Blog. (Heitner is also a Sports Law Professor at the UF Levin College of Law.)

Heitner also reports that Lawrence is leaning towards Excel Sports Management for off-field marketing opportunities.

Lawrence, 21, is the sure-fire No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft. Considering the New York Jets‘ current spot in the tank race, anything Lawrence related should be major news.

Courie currently represents Tennessee Titans wide receiver Adam Humphries and Las Vegas Raiders wideout Hunter Renfrow, both of whom played collegiately at Clemson.  Lawrence’s thought process here makes sense when considering the Death Valley ties. Courie is a self-proclaimed Clemson Tigers fan.

Over the last month and change, media pundits and players have voiced their opinion on all-things Lawrence, even going as far as to encourage the kid to avoid the Jets. Remembering John Elway and Eli Manning on draft day, and riding with the perception that the Jets are the worst situation in football, is what helps these views see the light of day.

Obviously, anything’s possible. Nobody knows what Lawrence will do once it’s officially time to turn pro. At the same time, to argue that Lawrence will create some form of a power-play to hand-select his team with ease is a non-starter.

It’s extremely difficult to pull off, and by many accounts, Lawrence is a kid who’d openly accept the New York challenge.

The world will eventually find out Lawrence’s agent of choice. For now, the first significant report on who he’ll eventually choose has arrived.
