Per NFL Network, the New York Jets may be looking into a trade for LB C.J. Mosley, who has played two games in two green seasons.

The New York Jets got their free agency endeavors started with the addition of linebacker Jarrad Davis. It appears their tinkering with the linebacking corps may have only just begun.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Jets have been taking calls regarding the status of linebacker C.J. Mosley.

The status of the four-time Pro Bowler and former Baltimore Raven has been in question after partaking in only two games over the first two years of a five-year, $85 million contract.

It’s hard to truly call Mosley a New York bust due to the myriad of medical issues in the metropolitan area. He endured a groin injury in the midst of a stellar debut in 2018, taking back a Josh Allen interception for a touchdown against Buffalo and playing only one other game in a brief return.

Mosley would later opt out of the 2020 season entirely in the wake of the ongoing health crisis.

The linebacker could become a bit of a threat in new head coach Robert Saleh’s 4-3 set, but his contract, still featuring $22 million more in guarantees, could be something the Jets want to get off the books to free up even more cap space.

The fine print could encourage the Jets to be patient if they’re indeed serious about moving Mosley. According to OverTheCap, a post-June 1 trade would save the Jets $6 million while enduring only $1.5 million in dead money.

Adding to the uncertainty around Mosley is the relative unease the Jets have in their current setup, even with the newly arrived Davis in tow.

The team may not retain current free agents Tarell Basham and Harvey Langi, while regular contributors Neville Hewitt and Jordan Jenkins are also set to hit the market.
