Sauce Gardner is officially in the house. The New York Jets rookie the kids call “Sauce” is poised to become one of the (if not the best) cornerbacks in the NFL.
Equipped with ridiculous change-of-direction ability at his size—standing 6-foot-3—the Cincinnati Bearcats stud was drafted fourth by Joe Douglas and the Jets in the 2022 NFL draft.
In a league where the rules blatantly discriminate against defensive players, especially defensive backs and cornerbacks, Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner is ready to take on the challenge that is a rookie season in the NFL.
Jets beat Eagles despite Sauce Gardner’s absence
The New York Jets incredibly knocked off the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6 in spite of Sauce Gardner’s surprising absence.
Sauce missed his first game in the NFL due to a concussion, and it came as a surprise. Late Saturday afternoon, the Jets downgraded the stellar sophomore cornerback to OUT after having tested positive for a concussion.
Even more amazing is that Gardner told everybody on Twitter that he had “felt fine.”
Sauce Gardner quiet in Jets season-opener
Finishing with just three tackles (two solo), no passes defended, and no interceptions, Sauce Gardner was a bit quiet in the New York Jets’ 22-16 victory over the Buffalo Bills in Week 1.
That’s not to say Sauce played poorly against Stefon Diggs and the Bills, as he still played phenomenally (compared to league-average standards). But his performance certainly didn’t match up with his usual excellence.

Sauce Gardner’s stats aren’t what’s important; it’s instead just how valuable he is to the New York Jets.
The First-Team All-Pro selection led the NFL with 20 passes defended as a rookie. It’s an amazing number considering how quarterbacks eventually caught on and stopped challenging the kid.
