Surprisingly falling in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft, Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh knew they wanted defensive end Jermaine Johnson. They just didn’t know if they could get him.
Fortunately, after already drafting stud cornerback Sauce Gardner and talented wide receiver Garrett Wilson, the Jets were able to trade back into the late first round (No. 26) in order to draft the Florida State product who grew up in Minnesota.
Johnson’s rookie season featured just 2.5 sacks, 10 quarterback hits, six tackles for loss, and 28 total tackles—as part of a defensive line rotation—but the 2023 campaign expects bigger things for the Jets sophomore.
