Joe Douglas and the New York Jets have snagged free-agent wide receiver Corey Davis off the open market on a three-year, $37.5 million deal.

The New York Jets and free-agent wide receiver Corey Davis have agreed to terms, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

After missing out on guards Joe Thuney and Corey Linsley—who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers, respectively—Joe Douglas turned his attention to the wide receiver market where Davis was lingering.

The Jets and Davis reportedly agreed on a three-year, $37.5 million deal that includes $27 million in guarantees.

Davis, 26, was a first-round selection of the Tennessee Titans back in 2017. The Western Michigan product’s professional career started slow. As a rookie, Davis tallied just 375 yards and no touchdowns on 34 receptions (11 games).

After nearly hitting 900 yards in 2018, Davis slumped in 2019, putting up just 601 yards and two scores on 43 receptions (15 games). It wasn’t until this past season that saw Davis realize most of his first-round potential.

Davis finished the 2020 campaign with 984 yards and five touchdowns on 65 receptions. Better yet, it came in just 14 games. Davis has missed just one game due to injury over the last three seasons. His two games missed last year were due to his Reserve-COVID-19 designation.

Davis joins a wide-receiver group consisting of Jamison Crowder, Denzel Mims, Braxton Berrios and Vyncint Smith. Who the quarterback will be in Week 1 remains the all-important question.

Who blocks for that quarterback is also an intriguing yet critical question that also needs to be partially answered over the next couple of days.

For now, though, Joe Douglas and the New York Jets are on the wide-receiver free-agent board with the addition of Corey Davis.
