Matt Burke, who previously served as the Miami Dolphins’ defensive coordinator under Adam Gase, has joined the New York Jets’ coaching staff.
Robert Saleh and the New York Jets have made a late addition to their coaching staff.
The #Jets have hired former #Dolphins DC Matt Burke for a game-management role, source says. Burke, who most recently served as #Eagles run game coordinator and DL coach, brings 15 NFL seasons’ experience as a defensive coach but will help on both sides of the ball.

Matt Burke has joined the Jets in a “game-management role,” according to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Burke spent the last two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He served as a defensive assistant in 2019, and in 2020, he served as both the defensive line coach and run game coordinator.
Both of Burke’s Eagles units performed well last year. The defensive line powered Philadelphia to a third-ranked total of 49 sacks and featured a league-high total of six players that recorded at least 25 pressures (Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, Malik Jackson, Derek Barnett, Vinny Curry). Philly’s run game averaged 5.0 yards per rush attempt, ranking third-best in the NFL.
Burke coached under former Jets head coach Adam Gase with the Miami Dolphins throughout Gase’s three-year tenure in Florida from 2016-18. He served as Miami’s linebackers coach in 2016 before being promoted to defensive coordinator, a role that held from 2017-18. It was an unsuccessful run for Burke, as the Fins ranked 29th and 27th in scoring defense over his two seasons at the helm.
A 45-year-old native of Hudson, Massachusetts, Burke played safety at Dartmouth before quickly transitioning into a coaching career following the conclusion of his playing days in college. Here is a look at his career resume:
- Run Game Coordinator/Defensive Line – Eagles (2020)
- Defensive Assistant – Eagles (2019)
- Defensive Coordinator – Dolphins (2017-18)
- Linebackers – Dolphins (2016)
- Linebackers – Bengals (2014-15)
- Linebackers – Lions (2009-13)
- Defensive Quality Control – Titans (2006-08)
- Administrative Assistant – Titans (2004-05)
- Assistant Coach – Harvard (2003)
- Graduate Assistant – Boston College (2000-02)
- Assistant Coach – Brighton Academy (1998-99)
NO, NO, NO don’t hire, speak to, or come in contact with anyone who ever worked with the the sub-human known as Adam Gase! Look at that man’s face, he has the same crazy eyes that Adam Gase has, its the look of insanity. The only people more insane than Adam Gase are those who would hire him. Why won’t the Jets fans realize its been mostly ownership who allow these bad hiring’s. The Jet’s owners aren’t interested in being successful with this team. If they had any interest in this team they would sell it to someone who really cares. I’m in my sixties and guess what? I now believe that I will probably go to my grave and never see the Jets even return to another Super Bowl unless they bought tickets. Being a Jets fan means you have been cursed for life!
Heck even Browns fans now send me sympathy cards every year.
Jets ownership is a joke. I never saw a bigger bunch of losers and I don’t mean the players. I mean the Jets owners. DO the team a favor and sell it. I do hope you read this and are so consumed with guilt you have no other choice but either go into hiding or you take the honorable way out and ……..well think about it!
Having gone to Dartmouth, he hopefully possesses a level of sentience sufficient to not punt on 4th and 1 inside the opponent’s territory.
Do they offer Punt Or Go For It 101 at Dartmouth?
Probably not but hopefully he has the wherewithal to analyze the question at least a little bit quantitatively, in which case he will conclude that it actually pays off over time to go for it, especially when you have Jordan and Pippen on the left side.
Yayyy!! Since the jets hired bowles, every year id complain to hire a damn game manager. Very nice
Forget Wilson, AVT, or Lawson, Burke is the piece that puts this team over the top
Saleh, schmaleh. A game manager hire proves the Jets are moving in the right direction
