The Florida alum and 2017 draft pick is the latest primary defender to land on the Jets’ long-term injury report, joining Lamarcus Joyner, Vinny Curry, Jarrad Davis, and Carl Lawson.
Linebacker Blake Cashman was also added to the list during the season, though the team appeared to catch a slight break with the rearrivals of safeties Ashtyn Davis and Sharrod Neasman on Wednesday.
Through three weeks, Maye has tallied 23 tackles and a sack as the Jets’ defense, packed to the brim with late draft picks and journeymen, has worked through the offense’s struggles. New York ranks a respectable 14th in scoring defense (23.3 points per game).
Maye recorded a clean bill of health in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, playing in all 32 games. He also went a perfect 16 for 16 in his 2017 rookie season. Maye will miss games for the first time since the 2018 season, when he missed 10 games due to foot, thumb, and shoulder injuries.
