Sunday’s first half was a quiet affair, which perhaps plays perfectly in the Jets’ favor

Jets Leaders

  • PASSING: Zach Wilson: 7 of 18, 76 yards
  • RUSHING: Zach Wilson: 2 carries, 20 yards
  • RECEIVING: Braxton Berrios: 3 receptions, 25 yards

Saints Leaders

  • PASSING: Taysom Hill: 6 of 9, 59 yards
  • RUSHING: Alvin Kamara: 13 carries, 75 yards, TD
  • RECEIVING: Nick Vannett: 1 reception, 19 yards

BB-Great

If the New York Jets are serious about their offensive revolution, they shouldn’t let Braxton Berrios leave for the offseason without a new contract.

Berrios set up the Jets’ first score with a 28-yard punt return and caught each of Zach Wilson’s first three passes, one of which was a fourth-down conversion that kept the green field goal trek alive.

With the rookies Michael Carter and Elijah Moore out, Berrios has become the Jets’ most potent offensive weapon.

Runaway

Sunday’s game has been a tale of two rushing games: Alvin Kamara has carried the Saints’ offensive burden (94 yards on 16 touches and a touchdown that will put Bryce Hall in the SportsCenter Top 10 for all the wrong reasons) in his return from injury while the Jets are completely depleted.

In relief of Carter, Johnson has provided only a crucial drop that cost New York a first down while La’Mical Perine (4 carries, 5 yards) has been equally ineffective.

Special teams keep it special

The Jets’ lone bright spots from an ugly first half were the fact the special teams looked rather competent over the first 30 minutes.

In addition to Berrios’ return, Braden Mann reverted to his pre-injury form, even if he’s being called upon far too often (52-yard average on four punts, including a 60-yarder) while the latest leg entered into the kicking sweepstakes (Eddy Pineiro) succeeded on his first attempt.
