Zach Wilson dives into the Twitter hysteria

Vote me once, shame on you; vote me twice, shame on me; vote me three times… give thanks to the die-hard fans on Jets Twitter.

Quarterback Zach Wilson captured yet another Pepsi Zero Sugar “Rookie of the Week” award on Thursday. This comes after a promising performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars and a win over the man picked before him, quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Wilson’s dominance over the award comes thanks to unlimited fan voting, putting his fate in the thumbs and fingers of Jets’ fans everywhere. The Jets’ own media team went to thank fans with a spin-off of All Elite Wrestling‘s Kenny Omega, drawing a response from the man of the hour.

“Got a new pair of pants for Christmas, you guys like them?” Zach tweeted.

While the verdict is still out on the pants, fans have enjoyed a string of sound performances from Wilson that illustrate tangible progress from the beginning of the season.

Wilson ended his day against Jacksonville going 14 of 22 for 102 yards and a touchdown through the air, but more impressively running up 91 rushing yards on four carries, including a thrilling 52-yard scramble for a touchdown (the longest rush ever by a Jets quarterback). He finished with a career-high 92.4 QBR.

Whether the award bears any indication of future success or not is another question, as addressed earlier by Jets X-Factor’s Stefan Sterling. Regardless, this is Wilson’s third time winning the award this season. No other rookie signal-caller has been able to win even once.

Since returning from his PCL injury Wilson has seven total TDs and just two interceptions in five games. He has built himself a three-game streak of interception-free football, something he should look to continue in the final two games of the season against stout defenses from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills.

Wilson and the New York Jets will welcome home old foe Tom Brady (perhaps for the final time) and the Buccaneers this Sunday, Jan. 2.

If Zach gets the chance to add any more hardware before the season’s end, fans will surely be ready to help out.
