Justin Hardee gets the New York Jets’ free-agent rumor mill turning

With less than two hours to go until the NFL’s legal tampering period begins at 12 p.m. ET, the free agency rumors are beginning to spread like wildfire.

One of them comes from a very plugged-in source: current New York Jets cornerback Justin Hardee.

Taking to Twitter, the Jets’ special teams ace tweeted: “If I link back up with another former Saint in NY it’s gone be lit”.

Hardee played each of the first four years of his career with the New Orleans Saints before joining the Jets in 2021.

Two of the best players set to hit the NFL’s open market are coming from the Saints: offensive tackle Terron Armstead and safety Marcus Williams.

The Jets seem unlikely to enter the market for a star tackle, but they have long been considered a strong candidate to aggressively pursue a big name at the safety position, leading many Jets fans to believe that Hardee is referring to Williams. Not to mention, it would seem Hardee is more likely to be talking about one of his former teammates in the secondary rather than an offensive player.

Buckle up, everyone. We’re sitting here analyzing a cryptic tweet, which means free agency season has officially arrived.

Williams, who will turn 26 later this year, is projected by Spotrac to earn a five-year, $75.2 million deal. The 2017 second-round pick from Utah has recorded multiple interceptions in each of his five NFL seasons and is considered one of the best center-field free safeties in the league.
