New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson looks “thick”, according to head coach Robert Saleh
New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh spoke to the media on Tuesday, which was the second day of the Jets’ organized team activities (OTAs).
Saleh spoke about the physique of quarterback Zach Wilson, who has put in a lot of work in the weight room this offseason.
“You guys will see him. He’s thick,” Saleh said of Wilson, making himself laugh in the process.
Saleh also discussed the excellent body language that he has seen out of the second-year quarterback.
“He looks good. He looks confident. Shoulders are back, he’s not caved in. He looks good, he’s confident, he’s smiling, he’s vocal. I’ve said it before, you can always tell the confidence level in their understanding of what they’re being asked to do by the volume of their voice, and he’s getting pretty loud.
“He’s in a good space, too. It’s just him and [Mike] LaFleur and [Rob] Calabrese, are in the room with him, so there’s less noise, but at the same time a lot of good things are happening in there.”

In other news, Saleh confirmed that offensive tackle Mekhi Becton is not present. Saleh cited the fact that Becton’s girlfriend had just given birth to the couple’s first child.
“They just had their baby. So he’s obviously tending to that, which is far more important than this,” Saleh said of Becton.

Saleh sounded pleased with the progress that the Jets have made this offseason. He confidently stated that he believes the team is better than it was in his first year.
“We’re better. I know we’re going to be better,” Saleh said. “We’re young, we’re a year older. We’ve brought in some really cool pieces, a lot of guys who stand for the right stuff, who live and breathe football. Now it’s just a matter of trying to gain that continuity and confidence.”
