New York Jets’ lineman McDermott posts ‘Here’s to Forever My Love’ to announce his engagement

No matter how many games the New York Jets win this season, at least one player is getting a ring.

Offensive lineman Conor McDermott took to Instagram to announce his engagement this week, popping the question at the renowned Villa Carlotta on Lake Como in Italy. His new fiancee Tillie is listed as a private pilot for Aero and has regularly appeared on McDermott’s account since May 2021.

The likes and comments of McDermott’s engagement post hold a major Jets presence, as teammates from New York’s past (James Morgan, Vyncint Smith, Greg Van Roten), present (Mekhi Becton, Braxton Berrios, George Fant, Mike White, Zach Wilson), and future (Laken Tomlinson) are among the well-wishers.

“Here’s to Forever My Love,” McDermott writes in his caption, showcasing a series of photos from his and Tillie’s romantic Italian getaway.

McDermott has made a bit of a home in New York after working his way through two other AFC East locales: he began his career as a sixth-round choice of the New England Patriots in 2017 but did not play a down in Foxboro. The UCLA alum caught on with the Jets after parts of three seasons in Buffalo, joining Gang Green in October 2019. He is the second McDermott brother to play in the NFL, with his older brother Kevin previously serving as a long snapper in San Francisco, Baltimore, and Minnesota.

Since joining the Jets, McDermott has mostly served as a reserve blocker, appearing in 36 games over the past three seasons. He secured a small spot in Jets lore last December when he caught a Zach Wilson fourth-quarter touchdown pass on a tackle-eligible play, which proved to be the winning score in a 26-21 victory over Jacksonville.

McDermott will likely compete with Chuma Edoga for New York’s backup swing tackle role later this summer.
