5 New York Jets players placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list
With five days remaining until the New York Jets kick off training camp for the 2022 season, five players have been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list:
- Offensive tackle Mekhi Becton
- Offensive tackle George Fant
- Defensive end Carl Lawson
- Tight end C.J. Uzomah
- Offensive lineman Dru Samia
Becton continues to work his way back from the knee injury that ended his season in Week 1 of the 2021 season. He attended mandatory minicamp in June but did not participate in practice, spending his time working with trainers in a side area.
Fant suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 17. In April, he told reporters that he had his knee scoped after the season and that he “definitely” expects to be ready for training camp.
The Jets are continuing to take things slowly with Lawson, who suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in the team’s second preseason game last year. Like Becton, Lawson attended minicamp but remained off to the side with trainers.
Uzomah did not participate in minicamp due to an undisclosed injury. Reports indicated that the injury is not believed to be serious. The veteran tight end suffered a knee injury that removed him from the Cincinnati Bengals’ AFC Championship victory in the first quarter, but he did return to the lineup two weeks later to start in the Super Bowl and handle his usual snap workload.
New York’s rookies reported to training camp this past Tuesday. Veterans report next Tuesday, July 26. The team’s first practice is on Wednesday, July 27.
