Robert Saleh is stoked about the New York Jets’ comeback

La’Mical Perine and Bradlee Anae have a chance to run into the book of New York Jets preseason legends.

A third-year running back, Perine helped the Jets erase a two-possession comeback through a seven-yard touchdown run in the early stages of Monday’s final preseason quarter against the Atlanta Falcons. Perine’s seven-yard run was the second play of the fourth quarter and the capper of an eight-play, 76-yard drive. Quarterback Chris Streveler put in the second-biggest play of the drive in on a 14-yard run, shortly before the Jets benefitted from a 28-yard defensive pass interference penalty.

Perine, one of the leftovers from the 2020 draft class, is fighting for a roster spot on the team in a running back’s room that has become quite crowded. Michael Carter and rookie Breece Hall are expected to be the headliners and Tevin Coleman likely has a secure spot, leaving Perine to battle it out with Ty Johnson and freshman free agent Zonovan Knight. Perine was the leading rusher in the Jets’ exhibition victory in Philadelphia last week, picking up 51 yards on 10 carries.

Gang Green earned its first lead of the night and expanded upon it immediately. Bradlee Anae earned a sack of Falcons quarterback Felipe Franks and then took the ensuing fumble back 30 yards for the expanding score. Head coach Robert Saleh was forced to curb his enthusiasm by officials, lingering onto the field as the former Dallas Cowboys defender reached paydirt.

The Jets continue to lead the Falcons 24-16 in the fourth quarter of exhibition action.
