Sauce Gardner says there is no QB controversy to be taken out of recent Madden NFL game
New York Jets first-team All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner recently partook in a game of Madden NFL 23, hosted by NFL Tuesday Night Gaming. In the clip below, Sauce can be seen tossing a game-tying touchdown (after the two-point conversion) to tight end Tyler Conklin… using quarterback Mike White.

Doing what they do best, members of the media took this clip and ran with it, trying to create some drama using Gardner’s quarterback decision. Did Sauce bench Zach Wilson for Mike White?

On Thursday morning, the NFL Network show Good Morning Football talked about whether there was something to be learned from Gardner’s virtual choice of signal-caller.

Gardner quickly ended any potential drama. Just six minutes after Good Morning Football tweeted out its video, Gardner responded by saying, “I never subbed Zach out for Mike. When I got the controller, Mike was already in and he was throwing dots, so there was no need to take him out”. Sauce included a laughing emoji to make it clear he was taking it all in stride.

On Wednesday, Gardner was named one of three finalists for the NFL’s 2022 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year Award, joining Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen. Gardner is currently the betting favorite to win the award, which makes sense considering he was the only player of the three candidates to be named an All-Pro (either first-team or second-team).
Gardner’s fellow first-round rookie, Garrett Wilson was also named as one of three finalists for the 2022 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, joining Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
