New York Jets fans are starving for some free agency news to get excited about. Well, here’s a signing they should love.
The Buffalo Bills have re-signed backup offensive tackle David Quessenberry, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
The #Bills have agreed to terms to with OT David Quessenberry, source says. He provided depth for Buffalo last year, making starts at both right and left tackle when Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown were dealing with injuries.

Here’s why Jets fans should care about this: The Jets are Quessenberry’s nemesis. New York’s young edge rushers destroyed Quessenberry in each of his two trips to MetLife Stadium over the past two seasons, directly leading to two upset victories. No offensive lineman has played worse against the Jets than Quessenberry in recent years.
With Quessenberry returning to Buffalo, the Jets could get up to two more shots at him in 2023. Two players, in particular, should be very excited about Quessenberry staying in Buffalo: Bryce Huff and John Franklin-Myers.
In Week 4 of the 2021 season, Quessenberry visited the Jets as a member of the Tennessee Titans and started at right tackle. New York steamrolled Quessenberry all day long as he allowed a whopping total of 11 pressures. It remains the highest single-game pressure total allowed by an NFL offensive lineman in either of the past two seasons.
Franklin-Myers and Huff were the primary beneficiaries, leading the Jets in total pressures with nine and six, respectively. They recorded the majority of their combined 15 pressures against Quessenberry’s protection.
Quessenberry allowed three sacks in the game: one to Franklin-Myers, one to cornerback Bryce Hall on a blitz, and one to Huff.
The Jets defeated Tennessee in overtime by a score of 27-24.
In Week 9 of the 2022 season, Quessenberry returned to MetLife Stadium as a member of the Bills, starting at right tackle in place of the injured Spencer Brown. Quessenberry coughed up a total of four pressures, the highest total of the game by any player on either team and the league’s sixth-highest total by a right tackle in Week 9.
One of those four pressures was this strip-sack by Bryce Huff in the fourth quarter, which put the Jets in a prime position to seal the 20-17 victory.
Here is a comparison of Quessenberry’s stats against the Jets in comparison to all other games of his career:
- 2 games vs. Jets: 4 sacks and 15 total pressures on 106 pass-blocking snaps (3.77% sack rate, 14.15% pressure rate)
- All other games: 14 sacks and 66 total pressures on 1,047 pass-blocking snaps (1.34% sack rate, 6.30% pressure rate)
The NFL is a game of matchups. In each of the past two seasons, the Jets pulled off an upset victory over a heavily favored opponent thanks largely to their dominance of the individual matchups against Quessenberry. The pressure Huff and Franklin-Myers created against Quessenberry was a great equalizer in each game.
New York might just luck into yet another crack at him in 2023.
