We had “Broadway Joe”, so what should Aaron Rodgers’ nickname be?
Comedian Bert Kreischer and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers are close friends. The two have been linked together for years, and are so close that apparently the future Hall of Fame quarterback told “The Machine” (Kreischer’s nickname) all of his secrets.
With Rodgers now in New York, Kreischer felt obligated to give the 39-year-old quarterback a “New York nickname”. Appearing in a segment for Deadspin to help promote his upcoming film, The Machine, Kreischer gave the Jets’ quarterback a theme song as well.
“You had Broadway Joe, what are we gonna call Aaron Rodgers,” pondered Kreischer. “It’s gotta be something f****** cool – like Midtown Aaron, Downtown Aaron, Uptown Aaron… Uptown Aaron’s a good one.”
Kreischer then broke out into a theme song for the Jets’ new quarterback to the tune of Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl.
“Uptown Aaron, you’ve been living in Gree-een Bay,” Kreischer sang. “But now you’re all the way in Flushing, Queens. And now you’re gonna get a falafel there, or comb you’re hair and you’re Uptown Aaron.”
The comedian continued with more stanzas that included lighthearted jabs at the Jets’ quarterback’s usage of ayahuasca and his decision to be unvaccinated against Covid-19.
Some can question Rodgers’ decision on both of those matters, but one thing can’t be questioned. With Aaron Rodgers in New York, the Jets are once again back in the mainstream spotlight – a place they haven’t been since Rex Ryan led the team to back-to-back AFC championship game appearances. And if Rodgers is able to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl, there may be plenty more songs sung about him in the future.
