Amidst all of the outside noise, it’s business as usual in Florham Park. On Friday, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich closed out the week with the latest updates on the New York Jets’ injured players.
Ulbrich said that cornerback Michael Carter II will “likely” be ruled out for Sunday’s home contest against the Los Angeles Rams. He also added that defensive tackle Quinnen Williams will be a “game-time decision.”
“We are going to push it with Quinnen, and we think he has a chance,” Ulbrich said of the All-Pro defensive tackle. “He’s just with the rehab guys again. But if there’s a guy that can play without practicing, it’s him.”
On the official injury report released later in the day, Carter II is listed as out with a back injury. Williams is questionable with a hamstring injury and did not practice on Friday.
The interim head coach also spoke about running back Breece Hall and his status for Sunday’s game.
“He’s fully back. He’s rolling, and he looked really good this week. It’s the benefit of a fantastic genetic code.”
With Carter II and D.J. Reed battling injuries throughout the year, the Jets have been rotating between which key piece they would be missing in the secondary. This week, the talented slot cornerback will likely miss his third game of the season. It is a big blow against a Rams team that uses the middle of the field heavily. As a result of Carter II’s absence, the depth options of the unit will have to make plays once again.
Not having Williams would be a gigantic loss. With Kyren Williams in tow (fourth in the NFL with 1,121 rushing yards), the Rams could run circles around the Jets if the All-Pro defender misses the game.
On the offensive side of the ball, Hall seems likely to have a workload similar to the one he had when healthy. It remains to be seen if Hall is truly healthy and what he can do on the field, but his “full” return should help the offense.
Carter II is the only player ruled out on the official injury report. Alongside Williams, the other players listed as questionable are Leki Fotu (knee/FP), Braelon Allen (back/FP), and Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle/FP).
