Robert Saleh announces the New York Jets will not be holding mandatory minicamp next week
The New York Jets will not be holding their mandatory minicamp practice next week. The news was first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. It was later confirmed by Jets head coach Robert Saleh during Tuesday’s press conference.
The #Jets have decided not to hold mandatory minicamp next week, source said, thanks in part to coming to training camp a week early due to the Hall of Fame game. Pleased with the work this spring, coach Robert Saleh sets them free a bit early.

The Jets will start training camp one week earlier than most other teams. That’s because they will be playing in the NFL’s Hall of Fame Game on August 3 against the Cleveland Browns. That schedule quirk played a large part in Saleh’s decision for the team to skip the minicamp practices, which would have been held June 13-15.
“With the Hall of Fame Game, we’re reporting a week earlier than everybody else, and guys need to get away,” said Saleh. “We’ve been here, they’ve put in a really good offseason, all the guys have since April … just to give the guys the extra week to go take their break because you need a week off and then you’ve got to rev back up to get ready for the season. Having this extra week, taking the week off, then the Fourth (of July), there’s just a lot of things that can mess up the flow. But we’ll pick it up and we’ll regain it once we get back for the Hall of Fame Game.”
Considering the turnout at OTAs and the team’s preparedness, Saleh felt comfortable allowing his Jets to let off the gas, before they go on without brakes.
