The New York Jets players starting training camp on the PUP list are mostly expected
The New York Jets‘ 2023 training camp opened today. Four of the team’s players will not be joining the active roster immediately, per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
The #Jets placed RB Breece Hall, WR Randall Cobb, TE C.J. Uzomah and DB Jarrick Bernard-Converse on the PUP list to open training camp.
They can be activated at any point during camp.

Breece Hall‘s presence on the PUP list is entirely expected. He is recovering from his ACL tear in Week 7 of the 2022 season, and his Week 1 status for 2023 is still not entirely certain. Randall Cobb had ankle surgery in March, although it is unclear if that’s the injury that is keeping him from practicing. C.J. Uzomah limped off the field during OTAs with an apparent leg injury. Jarrick Bernard-Converse‘s injury is currently unknown.
More interesting, though, are several players who are not on the PUP list. Both Jets tackles, Duane Brown and Mekhi Becton, are fully active for the start of training camp.
Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini and Rosenblatt, Becton will compete with Brown for the starting left tackle job. Cimini said he would be surprised to see Becton play on the right side, although that seems questionable given what Robert Saleh said about playing the best five on the offensive line.
Mecole Hardman is active after having groin surgery on February 21. Alijah Vera-Tucker said he does not expect to be limited in practice at all.
After a miserable season of injuries in 2022, especially along the offensive line, the Jets hope to flip the script in 2023. Having Vera-Tucker, Becton, and Brown on Day 1 of camp is a good start.
