After throttling the Carolina Panthers by a score of 27-0, the New York Jets fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their third preseason game, 13-6. Despite the result on the scoreboard, the Jets enjoyed some encouraging performances from important players who had a lot to prove: the most important of those being Mekhi Becton.

Becton’s performance is the main storyline of the game, but there were many other vital storylines that the film has the answers to.
Backup QB Zach Wilson is looking to prove that he is continuing to grow as an NFL signal caller. After two “OK” weeks to start the preseason, Wilson still had plenty of room for improvement entering the Tampa Bay game. What did he show in his third outing?
The running back room was another pivotal storyline. The addition of Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook means that one of the other running backs is most likely going to be cut. This game played a large role in determining who that player might be.
We haven’t even mentioned the defensive side of the ball yet. From an intensifying safety battle to a crowded linebacker competition, the Tampa Bay game shifted the tide at multiple defensive positions. There were also even more flashes of promise from the Jets’ talented young edge rushers, led by Will McDonald.
