The New York Jets made a push to trade for Davante Adams

Despite nothing significant materializing, the New York Jets did attempt to swing a trade for a star wide receiver at the trade deadline.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets looked into making a deal for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams. The Raiders, who turned the Jets away, proceeded to fire both their head coach and general manager shortly after the talks went nowhere.

The Raiders’ receiver was not the only player the Jest inquired about. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jets also looked into trading for the Buccaneers’ Mike Evans and the Bengals’ Tee Higgins.

Adams, 30, has been an elite receiver for close to a decade. Working with current Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, Adams racked up 669 receptions, 8,121 yards, and 73 touchdowns. He went over 1,300 yards three times and had five seasons of double-digit touchdowns, with his career-best being 18 in 2020.

Based on their rumored targets, the Jets seem keen on adding another playmaker to an offense that needs one. Whether it is through a trade, free agency, or the draft, another receiver would help Aaron Rodgers operate the offense, and Garrett Wilson would see more advantageous looks.

Considering their past history, it would not be surprising to see Adams reunite with Rodgers in New York. Adams has seemingly shown displeasure with the direction of the Raiders, and with the team possibly heading toward a rebuild, they may look to move their star receiver for assets.

But whether it is trading for Adams or signing Higgins or Evans in free agency, it is clear that the Jets are not content with their receiver room. They want a clear upgrade, and if the rumors are true, there will not be an avenue the team does not pursue to make one happen in 2024.
