Does Josh Allen have a turnover problem?
This has been the question of the week. After another Buffalo Bills loss in which Josh Allen had multiple turnovers, it’s a question that many want answers to. Is it really possible for a team to win with a quarterback who turns the ball over as much as Josh Allen?
First, let’s look at the simple numbers. Josh Allen has 71 interceptions since entering the league in 2018, the most in the NFL. In fact, only three QBs have at least 60 interceptions—Allen, Baker Mayfield, and Jared Goff.
Allen has also fumbled 56 times, the most of any quarterback since 2018. He lost 23 of those fumbles, which is the fifth most in the NFL.
In total, Allen has turned the ball over 94 times, again most in the NFL. No other quarterback has more than 85 in that same time period.
So, the short answer is yes, Josh Allen does absolutely have a turnover problem. He’s by far the most turnover-prone quarterback in the NFL. Therefore, it’s no surprise he leads the NFL in picks this season, which in turn has hurt the Bills offense.
However, Allen’s elite ability as a big play artist more than makes up for the turnovers. Allen has 14 touchdowns on passes of 10+ air yards this season, second-best in the NFL (only Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has more). Allen is also tied with Hurts for the most rushing touchdowns by a non-running back this year. His five yards per rushing attempt are the fourth most by a quarterback, minimum of 20 attempts, this season.
Allen is the embodiment of high risk, high reward. Sometimes, he will hurt his team with turnovers, but the majority of the time he’s putting them in a position that almost no other quarterback in the league can. That production is well worth it in the end.
It’s not that hard, folks. Allen can be both an elite quarterback and have major turnover problems. These things aren’t contradictory; just ask Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre.
ESPN Bet Odds: New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills
NFL Week 11 | Point Spread | Moneyline | Over-Under | |
---|---|---|---|---|
New York Jets (Away) | 👉 +7 | 💰 +260 | ↕️ O 39.5 | |
Buffalo Bills (Home) | 👉 -7 | 💰 -320 | ↕️ U 49.5 |
The New York Jets and Buffalo Bills both need this one to have any shot at making the playoffs in a wide-open AFC. So, who does ESPN Bet like in this one?
The Bills are the massive favorites here at -7 against the spread. They’re given -340 odds to win the game outright. Meanwhile, the Jets are given +270 odds to pull off the upset. Of course, the Jets haven’t won a game in Buffalo since 2019. In fact, they’ve lost their last 3 games in Buffalo by an average of 11.6 points.
The point spread is intriguing too. ESPN Bet currently has it sitting at over/under 39.5 points. The first matchup between these two hit 38 points, with the help of overtime. Will this Sunday be any different?
No matter your wagering choice, taking advantage of promo code JETSX with the stellar ESPN Bet Bonus for NFL Week 11 is by far your best bet (all the puns intended).
