According to a new report from Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer, Aaron Rodgers is planning to return regardless of the New York Jets’ record

Aaron Rodgers is dead set on returning this season.

According to a new report from Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer, the New York Jets quarterback plans to return this season regardless of the Jets’ playoff chances.

“Look, he’s going to be back here in New York. He’s going to be back all week next week with the Jets. Here’s the thing with Aaron Rodgers. I was told originally that if they are out of playoff contention, Aaron is probably not going to try to come back,” said Glazer.

“Well, that changed this past week. I think Aaron, even if they are out of it, still wants to show that he was able to come back faster from that Achilles tear, faster than any quarterback ever.”

The critical caveat in this situation is Rodgers’s progression with his recovery. If the quarterback does not hit the necessary benchmarks and feels uncomfortable playing a complete game, the speculation on his return is a moot point.

However, if his recovery puts him on a path to return this season, it is fair to wonder why the quarterback would risk his health if the Jets are out of playoff contention.

From an objective viewpoint, the risks in this situation outweigh the benefits. While Rodgers could be hailed as a “medical marvel,” there is always the possibility of re-injury. Without a playoff spot on the line, the Jets would also be at risk of throwing their 2024 season away.

Outside of a complete reversal of their recent games, the Jets seem poised to be out of the playoff picture in the next few weeks. If Rodgers still opts to push himself to return without the team in the playoff picture, it could have disastrous consequences for both the present and future of the New York Jets.
