Aaron Rodgers set the record straight regarding the New York Jets’ decision to activate him off injured reserve
Aaron Rodgers has responded to the criticism surrounding his activation to the New York Jets’ active roster.
Appearing on the “Pat McAfee Show,” the New York Jets’ starting quarterback spoke about the team’s decision to activate him with no intention of playing him.
“The story is simple. We lost the previous week, and again, I was targeting the week of the 24th to come back. I assumed I was going to be put on IR; I asked to be put on IR because I didn’t wanna practice at the expense of somebody getting cut,” said Rodgers.
“I didn’t feel like I needed to practice to continue my rehab, but obviously, I got overruled there. It is what it is, and it was an interesting situation.”

Later in the day, head coach Robert Saleh spoke about the situation, confirming that it “was Joe (Douglas) and I” who decided to put Rodgers on the active roster.
The situation will not matter much in the grand scheme of things once the Jets’ season is over. Rodgers did not want to take the spot, the organization thought they had the room, and ultimately, the decision was made to overrule the team’s quarterback.
Whether the decision was right or wrong, the Jets felt that Rodgers’s presence alone was worth a roster spot. As of now, it remains to be seen what impact the quarterback will have on the Jets’ last two games of the season.
