Another front office member is leaving the New York Jets

The New York Jets have lost another key member of their front office.

According to a report from SNY’s Connor Hughes, the team’s Director of Player Personnel, Chad Alexander, is departing for the Los Angeles Chargers. Alexander is getting a promotion with the LA-based franchise, as he will be their assistant general manager.

Alexander has been with the Jets since Joe Douglas took over as general manager. He spent over two decades with the Baltimore Ravens before his role in New York.

While it is positive for Alexander to get a promotion, the real impact for the Jets is losing a second key front-office member in less than a month. The Jets also parted ways with assistant general manager Rex Hogan.

Hogan and Alexander’s departure has left general manager Joe Douglas without his two top lieutenants. For better and worse, they have had a significant impact on the team’s drafts and free-agent moves from 2020 to the present.

Without Hogan and Alexander, there is potential room for improvement. Douglas can add new voices to the front office, giving the Jets a chance to improve their process and have higher success in the draft and free agency.

The moves could also signal that a self-preservation mentality has overtaken One Jets Drive. Between the front office departures and the leaks about the coaching staff, the organization’s cohesion and structure seem to be at a low point under the Douglas and Saleh regime.

With the NFL Combine and the official start to the offseason not far away, it will be very interesting to see how the Jets fill out their front-office vacancies. The candidates they pursue may show key factors the Jets are looking for and give potential insight into how the team’s offseason will play out.
