Tyrod Taylor announces his jersey number with the New York Jets
Time always marches forward, and the New York Jets have proven that with the latest jersey number reveal.
In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), new backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor posted an edit of him in the team’s uniform. As the picture shows, Taylor selected the No. 2.

It is not inherently surprising that Taylor selected No. 2, as he’s worn it at two previous stops in his career, including his previous stint with the New York Giants.
However, it is ironic that another quarterback is wearing the number shortly after Zach Wilson’s departure from the team.
Wilson wore the number in his three tumultuous seasons with the Jets. He had it for the rare highs and flashes of brilliance, and he also had it for the constant bad and stupifying moments on the field.
It did not take long for players to forget about Wilson, as cornerback D.J. Reed asked fans about switching to Wilson’s old number a mere hour after the trade was announced.
Taylor taking the number solidifies the new era the Jets are heading into. They have new jerseys and new branding. Aaron Rodgers is returning, and the team has added key contributors in free agency and the draft.
The vibes around the Jets are positive, and they hope to translate that into better results on the field. Wearing Wilson’s old number, Taylor could be a constant reminder that the Jets have moved forward from the struggles of the past.
